It would have been easier for me if they were oblivious. The kids were smart enough to know that they couldn't make it. The hardest part of the job was presenting Special Education students with Standardized Tests that confirmed their own inability to function on grade level. Students that I taught ranged across socio-economic backgrounds from one of the founding fathers' of the town with a street named for his family along with transient children from other areas in the state and the world. There are projects on one side of town and 2-3 million dollar homes on the other. Franklin Township Board Education is a diverse school district that would be expected as a suburb of any large city like New York.
